LG washing machine IE error

On most LG washing machines, IE means water is not coming in. The machine cannot fill, so the wash stops. Often the tap is closed or the water is weak. Sometimes the valve that lets water in is blocked or has failed. Codes differ by model. Check your manual too.

What IE means

Safety first
Switch off at the socket with dry hands, then unplug. Is the socket wet, warm, sparking or smelling of burning? Do not touch it. Call us.
Burning smell, sparks, or water near a socket? Do not touch the appliance or the plug. Keep everyone away. Call us.
Fire, or smoke filling the room? Leave the house. Call 112.
Safe checks you can do
Do these in order. Stop at any step that feels unsafe.
Switch off at the socket with dry hands, then unplug. Is the socket wet, warm, sparking or smelling of burning? Do not touch it. Call us.
Find the tap the machine's hose comes from. Turn it fully open.
Open another tap in your flat. No water, or only a thin flow? Then the machine cannot fill either. Wait until the water comes back.
Look at the hose from the tap to the machine. Look only at the part you can see. Do not move the machine.
Water at the hose join or near the socket? Turn the tap off. Do not touch the machine or the plug. Keep everyone away. Call us.
Is the hose bent sharply or squashed? Straighten it gently by hand. Do not pull the hose off.
Plug in with dry hands and switch on. Start a short wash. Does IE come back?
A closed tap or weak water can cause IE.
LG's guide also says to clean the inlet filter. That means taking the hose off. Water left in the hose comes out. Leave that step to us.

What we do on a visit
The technician checks that water reaches the machine. Then we check the inlet filter. That is the small mesh where the hose joins. If it is blocked, we clean it.
Then we check the inlet valve, the valve that lets water in. In Thane, scale can block the inlet valve. Scale is a hard crust left by hard water. We see this often. If the valve has failed, we replace it.
Basic faults are usually fixed on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, it usually takes 2–3 days. Then we come back to fit it.
